The pair will be joined by William’s uncle, Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and aunt Sophie, the Countess of Wessex. They will also be joined by a string of other royal faces, though Meghan and Harry are not expected to attend in light of the recent split. Kensington Palace said: “The summit will demonstrate the strength of the relationship between the U.K. and Africa, showcase and promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa, and highlight the UK’s commitment to supporting economic development in Africa, including through the creation of jobs and new partnerships.”
Though William and Kate are holding the reception on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, the actual summit will be hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Anne, Princess Royal will also be in attendance.
Edward is the only one of the Queen’s children not have divorced and he and Sophie live in Bagshot Park, ten miles south of Windsor.
He and Sophie married in 1999.
Sophie worked in public relations but both she and Edward quit their business roles in 2002 to focus on royal engagements.
They have two children: Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn.
The news comes as a royal commentator said Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s decision to stand down as working royals would increase the pressure on William and Kate.
Richard Fitzwilliams said: “The spotlight has always been on William and Kate as it is a royal goldfish bowl.
“However, since Harry started dating Meghan they have been the major media draw as the dynamic duo who were expected to modernise the monarchy.
“Now after their bombshell announcement that they are stepping down as senior royals, the monarchy’s future lies in the hands of William and Kate and George and his siblings.”
Prince George is William and Kate’s eldest son.
Harry and Meghan married in 2018.

The couple said they would look to balance their time between the UK and North America.
Part of their announcement said they would seek financial independence.
As it stands, 95 percent of the Sussex costs are covered by Charles, Prince of Wales.
Harry and Meghan have one son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Harry is sixth in the line of succession and Archie is seventh.
The Duke was 3rd at his birth behind Charles and William but has been pushed down with the birth of his brother’s children.
As well as George, William and Kate have a daughter, Princess Charlotte and another son, Prince Louis.
William and George are directly in line to the throne and will likely both become King.
The Queen has been on the throne since 1952.
