Russia-Ukraine war – latest: Wagner chief reported dead in plane crash

Yevgeny Prigozhin and his commander Dmitry Utkin were on board the plane that crashed near Moscow on Wednesday night, Russia’s civil aviation authority confirmed.

Officials say all 10 of the people on board were killed after the private aircraft, en-route from Moscow to St Petersburg, came down near the village of Kuzhenkino.

An investigation as been launched into the cause of the crash, which happened exactly two months after the Wagner chief led his mercenary group fighters in a failed mutiny against Russian military leadership.

In the immediate aftermath, speculation has been swirling over whether the warlord was indeed on the downed jet.

Wagner fighters have also issued a threat to president Vladimir Putin that their leader ‘better be alive’ or they will ‘march on Moscow’ again.
