Samsung’s Eco Remote harvests radio waves from Wi-Fi home routers. The cutting-edge remote also has solar panels that work indoors and a USB port for emergency charging.

The Korean firm says the remote will be included with all its 2022 sets.

They estimate it will prevent 99 million batteries being disposed of in landfill over the next seven years.

Samsung says the power to harvest radio waves could be a “game-changer” for other low-powered household devices.

A spokesman said: “Whether it’s a sunny day or the middle of the night, the battery stays fully charged by collecting routers’ radio waves and converting them to energy.”
