Sarah Ferguson celebrates her 61st birthday today, and the occasion will be extra special this year. The York family have had a lot to celebrate in recent months, a wedding and a royal baby announcement.

Lockdown restrictions saw Sarah’s eldest daughter Princess Beatrice have to postpone her lavish wedding.

With gatherings banned under the lockdown rules, Beatrice and her now-husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi instead wed in a private and intimate ceremony.

This took place at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, on the Royal Lodge estate in Windsor.

The Royal Lodge is home to Sarah and Prince Andrew, and so the day was made extra special by the closeness to home.

Now the Yorks have another exciting occasion on the horizon and one which Fergie is especially looking forward to.

Sarah and Andrew’s youngest daughter Eugenie is expecting her first child with husband Jack Brooksbank.

The royal baby is due in early 2021 and has brought excitement at a time of uncertainty during the coronavirus pandemic.

As Princess Eugenie announced the news, Sarah post on Instagram: “I am so excited by the news that Eugenie and Jack are expecting their first child.

“Thrilled for them both and in my 60th year cannot wait to be a grandmother.

“Welcoming a new baby into the York family is going to be a moment of profound joy.”

Sarah also marked the occasion in a rather special way, using her Storytime with Fergie and Friends YouTube channel to read a book about grandmothers.

Fergie launched her own YouTube channel during lockdown, reading stories to children.

Both Beatrice and Eugenie have starred on the channel to read stories to the 6,000 subscribers.

Sarah has read books like We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, Winnie the Pooh by A A Milne and The Tales of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.

As many of the videos have been filmed in the summer, the backdrop for the reading sessions has been Sarah and Andrew’s garden at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

On the day of Princess Eugenie’s baby news, Sarah read a book named Nanna Maureen by Casey Gillespie which is about a magical grandmother.

Another said: “Congratulations to the future grandmother!! Going to be the best grandmother”.

While a third added: “Congratulations! Just think of all the special times you’ll have reading to your new grandchild!”

Sarah may be eager to instil a love of reading in her grandchildren, having herself authored children’s books.

The Duchess has written several stories including Little Red, Ballerina Rosie and James and the Bullies.

When appearing on the BBC’s The One Show in 2018, Fergie was asked how she felt about becoming a grandparent someday.

She responded: “Excellent! They are thrilled because I write children’s books and I’m a child, I haven’t grown up.”
