Sarah Ferguson opens up on heartbreak over mother ahead of Princess Eugenie’s royal baby

Princess Eugenie: Expert on possible royal baby names

Eugenie is expecting her first child with husband Jack Brooksbank early this year. Ahead of the royal baby’s arrival, the Duchess of York predicted her youngest daughter will be a “great mother”.

Sarah praised Eugenie as “strong”, “determined” and “incredibly empathetic”.

She also opened up about her mother Susan Barrantes, who died in a car crash in Argentina in 1998 when she was just 61.

The Duchess told Us Weekly: “Having not had my own mother around, I’ve always been determined to be a very present mother with my children, and I know Eugenie will be the same with hers.

“She is incredibly empathetic and will be a great mother.

“She is a very strong and determined person, always looking for the truth in all she does.”

In reference to Eugenie’s work for the Anti-Slavery Collective, which aims to raise awareness for modern slavery as a global epidemic, Sarah added: “Her work for the Anti-Slavery Collective is a commitment she steadfastly campaigns for, to give everyone the chance to have a voice.”

Buckingham Palace announced Eugenie’s pregnancy last September.

The palace said in a statement: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”

Eugenie, who married Jack in 2018, took to Instagram with the happy news.

The mother-to-be shared a snap of a tiny pair of teddy bear slippers and wrote: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021….”

And Sarah revealed her excitement about becoming a grandmother on social media.
