Screaming Brits feared plane ‘might explode’ during horror emergency landing

Flight diverted after brawl erupts on plane

Passengers on board a packed plane from London Gatwick to the Croatian city of Dubrovnik suffered a terrifying flight from hell.

The flight crew on board the easyJet plane informed passengers that the plane had encountered a problem that was “deteriorating quite badly”.

This sparked panic among passengers, with many telling the Mirror that they “didn’t know if we were going to make it back to the runway”.

Emma Game, 51, her husband Daren, 51, and their teenage children Maddi, 17, and Carrick, 16, were among those who endured the traumatic flight, which took off just after 8am this morning (July 28) and subsequent emergency landing.

The family had been looking forward to their first trip abroad for five years.

Speaking to the Mirror, Emma said things started to go awry just 15 minutes into the flight.

A flight official announced that there was a potential issue with the hydraulics and potential landing gear damage.

Passengers were first told that the issue would not impact the flight and that “everything was fine”.

However, minutes later, they were told the problem was “deteriorating quite badly” and they needed to return to Gatwick immediately.

However, the drama was not over as prior to the emergency landing, the cabin crew began demonstrating the brace position.

Emma said: “You could see the fear in their eyes.

“I didn’t know if we were going to make it back to the runway.

“I’ve never been so relieved to finally reach the ground.”

Emma said one of the crew had continuously shouted “brace! brace!” as the plane landed on the runway

Another passenger on board, Katrina García, from London, told the Mirror she was “crying the whole time”.

She added: “I was really anxious, panicking – I was shouting and crying,”

Katrina said that she was told by the cabin crew that the passengers may need to “leave their belongings” and run to the airport as soon as they land.

The passenger was panicked, saying: “I was like, why do we need to be running? Is it going to explode?”

The passengers were later sent an apology from easyJet and were offered a £6 voucher to spend in the airport while they waited for a replacement plane.

An easyJet spokesperson said: “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY6427 from London Gatwick to Dubrovnik returned from airborne due to a technical issue. The captain performed a routine landing in line with procedures and the aircraft was met by emergency services at Gatwick as a precaution.

“The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers’ guidelines.”
