Sophie Wessex and military medal-wearing Prince Edward step up for Remembrance Day role

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 55, and Prince Edward, 56, joined Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at a special service to mark Remembrance Day on Wednesday. The royals visited National Memorial Arboretum to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives while serving their country. Armistice Day commemorations were pared back across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic but Royal Family members led the nation in remembrance.

Sophie and Edward’s attendance at the service was a surprise to royal fans as it was not announced ahead of time.

The Royal Family tweeted about their attendance when the service had already got underway.

The tweet read:  “The Earl and Countess of Wessex will attend today’s service.”

Some royal fans questioned why Prince Edward, who never completed his military training appeared to be wearing medals on his uniform.
