Continuing her royal duties, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, met with nurses and NHS staff via video call earlier this week to mark the opening of Leeds Hospital’s new children’s assessment and treatment unit. In one adorable video, the Countess of Wessex met a three-day-old baby named Phoebe with her mother.

In the video, Sophie is heard gushing: “Aww who is this?”

She then says: “Congratulations.

“That is so thrilling.”

After Phoebe’s mother reveals how she has felt so supportive while giving birth to her daughter, Sophie added: “Good!

“Every patient is so important.”

While opening the new unit, eleven-year-old Hajrah unveiled a plaque on Sophie’s behalf.

In another video, Sophie told Hajrah: “Thank you very much for performing that for me.

“That was really kind.

“Excellent, so I think we can probably safely assume that the unit is fully open now. Wonderful.”

Sophie then asked Harjah if it was the first time she has unveiled a plaque before saying: “Maybe you should come with me more often.

“You’re very good at doing it.”

Sophie joined the Royal Family in 1999 when she married Prince Edward.

Together, they have two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn.

Following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure from the Royal Family, Sophie has taken a larger role within the Firm.

Back in December, the Queen kicked off a new era for the Royal Family with an event attended seven of her family members – with the group quickly being dubbed the ‘New Firm’.

Dubbed the “New Firm”, the group of eight members of the Royal Family includes Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Princess Anne.

The new line-up was revealed before Christmas when the Queen hosted the first public royal gathering in nine months at Windsor Castle.

A royal source said at the time: “The family are united in exploring the possibilities in working with each other to highlight the causes dear to their hearts, helping each other and the country at the same time.

“They are working on opportunities for next year and beyond already.

“As soon as they are able it will be all hands on deck to make up for lost time.

“The Queen has often said they ‘need to be seen to be believed’ – this is coming from the very top.”
