Teenagers, 13 and 17, charged with murder of dad 'with heart of gold’

Two more teenagers have been charged with the murder of a Wigan dad with ‘a heart of gold’ after he died outside a church last week.

Steven McMyler, 34, was kicked in the head in the grounds of Wigan Parish Church shortly before 7.50pm on August 6. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A boy, 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with murder on Saturday.

It comes after another boy, 13, who cannot be named was charged with murder yesterday.

Jordan Short, 19, of Rushey Hey Road, Kirkby, also charged with murder, has already appeared in court.

Mr McMyler’s family has described him as a ‘popular lad’ who ‘everyone thought the world of’.

A statement read: ‘Steven was an extremely likeable lad and everyone who came across him loved him as much as we all did.

‘He was a popular lad and he lit the room up as soon as he walked in.

‘Everybody thought the world of him as he had a heart of gold.

‘We can’t believe what has happened and we are struggling to come to terms with this terrible tragedy.’
