Terrifying moment burglary suspect holds knife to Specsavers worker's throat

This is the moment a burglary suspect takes a Specsavers worker hostage with a knife to her throat as police try to arrest him.

James Tallon, 28, can be seen grabbing his horrified victim and using her as a human shield, backing away as a policeman pulls for a taser.

The two officers can be heard shouting ‘Jamie put it down now’ repeatedly as he edges towards the back fire escape.

The video cuts as Tallon does a runner out of the shop in Frome, Somerset, but he was soon tackled to the ground by a security guard, and a struggle ensured.

Officers tried to pepper spray the assailant, but he managed to get away and then tried to hijack a car with two children inside, demanding their mother get out of the vehicle.

The woman’s partner, who was in the passenger seat, intervened and Tallon once again fled.

Police launched a manhunt following the incident on December 14 last year, leading to Tallon’s arrest two days later.

Avon and Somerset Police added: ‘An officer recognised him driving a vehicle and moved his police car to block it – resulting in him running off once more.

‘He again resisted arrest, violently struggling with the officer before a colleague came to his assistance.

‘Following a trial at Taunton Crown Court last week he was convicted of false imprisonment, threats to kill a police officer, affray, possession of a bladed article and assault by beating.

‘He was sentenced to six years in prison with an extended four years on licence.’
