William and Kate made friends with the pup at Clitheroe Community Hospital after visiting to thank staff for their pandemic work.

The dog, who licked William’s cheek, will be trained to support patients and staff at East Lancashire Hospitals Trust alongside therapy dog Jasper. Kate said the pup was “so sweet” but, after a cuddle, added: “Our dog is going to be very upset.”

The couple also met GPs, nurses and patients. William told the staff: “We’re so grateful for all your hard work. I’m not sure there are enough words to say how grateful everyone is for what you have done.”

On a trip to see the work of Burnley charity Church On The Street, Kate found herself holding Trudi and Alastair Barrie’s daughter Anastasia. As the Duchess cooed at the three-month-old, William laughed as he told his wife: “You can’t take her with you.”
