This weekend, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge marks her fourth decade, and the Cambridge family surely has some surprises planned for Kate’s special day. Nowadays, Kate’s birthdays are thought to be mostly quiet family celebrations with Prince William and her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. But in the past, Kate has had some fun birthdays out on the town in London.
25th and 26th birthdays
In her earlier years in the royal spotlight, Kate spent a few of her 20-something birthdays on the London social scene.
Kate’s early relationship with Prince William around the time of her 25th and 26th birthdays courted a huge amount of attention from the public and the media.
For her 25th birthday in 2007, Kate was pictured leaving the Chelsea flat she lived in at the time, and crowds of photographers had gathered outside.
For her 26th birthday in 2008, Kate spent the evening with the Middleton family and they had a special dinner.
Afterwards, Kate and sister Pippa Middleton headed off to a trendy nightclub, Kitts, in Sloane Square.
For Kate’s 27th birthday, Prince William pulled out all the stops and whisked his future wife off to Scotland.
William organised a dreamy candle-lit dinner for Kate on the Queen’s Balmoral estate in the heart of the Highlands, as per HELLO!.
Kate and William are thought to have held their low-key celebration in a cottage once beloved by the Queen Mother.
Over the last decade, Kate has opted for quieter birthdays, often spending her special day with her husband and family.
Kate spent her 30th birthday at Kensington Palace, with a royal aide stating a “quiet gathering with family and friends” took place.
Since welcoming her three children over the last few years, it is thought Kate has spent many birthdays with her family at their Norfolk home of Anmer Hall.

Kate’s 38th birthday in 2020 was thought to involve a family gathering at Kensington Palace, with Kate’s father Michael Middleton pictured driving to see his eldest daughter on her special day.
For her 39th birthday in 2021, the UK had been plunged back into lockdown following a surge in Covid cases.
In light of this, Kate’s 39th birthday was thought to involve a cute birthday tea and a cake prepared with love by her family.
A friend reportedly told Vanity Fair: “Catherine isn’t one for lots of fuss or big parties—being with William and the children is her favourite way of spending her birthday.”
