Some say that crime doesn’t pay – and for these two bungling thieves, that was the case.
They were caught on CCTV driving a white van onto a firm’s premises in the middle of the afternoon in Birmingham.
After parking up, they rush to try and load up several stillages, or metal containers.
But things go wrong from there, as one of the men falls back while carrying the crates as the haul crashes on top of him.
He is helped by his accomplice, who is wearing a high-vis jacket, while he hobbles away to the driver’s side of the van.
The limping man is seen seconds later being helped into the back of the van while the other man closes the doors and drives away as employees dash out to confront them.
Bosses at the firm, which wants to remain anonymous, said they had not reported this latest incident on December 17 as the men left empty-handed.
But West Midlands Police are still probing a separate theft of 40 stillages at the same site, which happened just before 2am on October 26.
‘We didn’t know if they had stolen anything at first until we checked the CCTV,’ said a senior boss at the firm.
‘Then we looked back at the footage and saw the chap fall over. It’s comical really.
‘We didn’t report the incident to police as they didn’t get anything except bruised ribs and legs.
‘That’s good enough for me to be honest.’
He said the pair also ‘seemed to know where to drive to get out’.
Police confirmed they were investigating the theft of stillages from October and appealed for any information.
