Meghan Markle’s estranged father Thomas Markle has been urged to “stop running to the press” to gain his daughter and Prince Harry’s attention, as commentator Ayesha Hazarika said his behaviour was “toxic”. With regards to the former lighting director’s statement on legal action regarding visitation rights to see his grandchildren, Hazarika said he had no “automatic right” and was only worsening the situation.

Journalist Ayesha Hazarika said: “I don’t know what is wrong with this man, I think he’s got severe mental health issues.

“Quite frankly, I think he comes across as a very unpleasant, toxic, publicity-hungry weirdo, and if I were them, I would get a restraining order against him.

“It is their right as parents to decide who the children see and who they don’t see, he doesn’t have some automatic right, and the way he’s conducting himself, everytime he goes on tv he makes it worse.

“If he really wants to re-build bridges, and I understand how difficult this is, I know people that have been estranged from their family, very difficult, but if you want to build a bridge back to your family, you don’t go running to the press the whole time.

“You keep your head down, you maybe write private letters, you get yourself together and then you gently put out some olive branches.”

Meghan Markle has led a strained relationship with her father since the weeks leading up to her royal wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

It emerged in the press that Thomas Markle had collaborated with the paparazzi on a series of staged photographs, which showed him preparing for a tuxedo-fitting and researching the history of Britain.

Shortly afterwards, it was announced that he would no longer be attending the marriage ceremony, and was undergoing heart surgery in hospital.

During her interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Meghan stated that his involvement with the paparazzi had been a “betrayal”.

Since then, Thomas Markle has conducted a number of interviews where he has both criticised his daughter’s actions and appealed for her forgiveness.

During a recent interview with GB News, he claimed that Meghan was “not the daughter I knew” and that her behaviour towards the Queen was “embarrassing”.

On Wednesday, he spoke with Australia’s breakfast show Sunrise, where he accused the Sussexes of being “deeply unfair” towards their children, by depriving them of having a close relationship with their grandchildren.

Whilst he had previously stated his desire to take legal action against the couple, to petition the Californian courts for visitation rights, he has now backtracked on that claim.

He told the Australian hosts that legal action would turn Archie and Lilibet into “pawns”, which he wished to avoid.

Thomas Markle has never his two grandchildren, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana, and aside from a phone conversation, is yet to meet Prince Harry.

Meghan also leads a difficult relationship with her two half-siblings, Thomas Markle Jr and Samantha Markle. Neither were invited to her wedding and have both publicly spoken about their relationship with the Duchess of Sussex.

Her older half-brother is currently appearing on Celebrity Big Brother Australia, where he has labelled Meghan as “shallow” in the promotional trailer.

Meanwhile, her sister Samantha Markle has published a book titled ‘The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister’.

Whilst her relationship with the Markle family remains tense, Meghan and Harry enjoy a close bond with Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, who resides near the couple in California.
