Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York, has announced she is expecting a child with her husband of nearly a year, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The upcoming royal baby will be the Princess’s first child and the second grandchild to the Duke and Duchess of York.
Buckingham Palace confirmed Beatrice’s pregnancy in a statement on May 19, writing: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year.
“The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
The statement was accompanied by a photograph of the couple on their wedding day last year.
The baby is expected to arrive in the autumn months, but no official due date is given for royal babies.
This year is gearing up to be quite the year for new additions to the royals.
Beatrice’s sister Eugenie recently gave birth to her first child, a son named August, and Zara Tindall also welcomed a son not long after, named Lucas.
Elsewhere, Meghan Markle is due to have a baby girl in the summer.
This means by the end of the year, the Queen will have an incredible 12 great-grandchildren running around royal palaces.
What titles will Princess Beatrice’s baby have?
Royal titles are passed down via the male line in the family, meaning Beatrice’s child will not receive any royal titles from the British Royal Family, like their cousin, August.
This could change if the Queen later decides to grant a peerage to Mr Mapelli, but at this stage, no such plans seem to be in place.
However, one title the royal baby is certain to receive will not come from the UK Royal Family, but from the Mapelli family.

Their father Edoardo is an Italian count, and upon marrying him in July 2020, Princess Beatress became a countess.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mr Mozzi’s father, Count Allessandro Mapelli Mozzi, said: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation.
“He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
However, this is merely a courtesy title and is rarely used, even by the Mapelli family.
Mr Mapelli already has one child from a previous relationship – a son named Christopher, more affectionately known as Wolfie.
The couple has not revealed any further details about their child to the public due to royal protocol.
Royals are not permitted to share due dates or the sex of their baby with the public prior to giving birth.
The birth of the baby will be posted outside Buckingham Palace a few days after the baby is born later this year.
