Kate, Princess of Wales has been voted as Express.co.uk readers’ favourite member of the Royal Family in a recent poll. Kate married Prince William 11 years ago and has played an active role in the Royal Family since, attending many official occasions and engagements over the years.

Queen Elizabeth II had long-been the nation’s favourite royal, with a YouGov popularity figure of 75 percent.

Following Her Majesty’s death on September 8, Express.co.uk ran a poll from 10am on Wednesday, October 5, to 1pm on Friday, October 14, Express.co.uk asking readers: “Who is your favourite member of the Royal Family now Charles is King?”

Overall, a whopping 14,788 people responded and the most popular answer was Kate, Princess of Wales, with 34 percent (5,093 people) of votes cast.

Prince William was the second most popular with 24 percent (3,499 people) backing him, followed by Princess Anne with 14 percent (2,133 people).

King Charles III came out as the fourth favourite with nine percent (1,382 people) voting for him.

A further four percent each voted for Prince Harry (557 people), Camilla, Queen Consort (519 people) and Sophie, Countess of Wessex (519 people).

Princess Charlotte, 7, was the most popular royal child with two percent (261 people) of votes cast, followed by her younger brother four-year-old Prince Louis with one percent (147 people).

Both Meghan Markle and Zara Tindall received one percent of the vote with 144 and 140 people backing them respectively.

This was followed by Lady Louise (73 people), Prince George (66 votes), Prince Andrew (52 votes) and Prince Edward (41 votes).

Furthermore, James, Viscount Severn received 20 votes, while both Peter Philips and Princess Beatrice received 15. 

Princess Eugenie was the least favourite listed with just 13 people voting for her as their favourite. 

Some 46 people had a different favourite, answering “other” and 53 people said they did not know.

Dozens of people shared their reasoning in the comments below the accompanying article.

There was plenty of support for the Prince and Princess of Wales, with username Linda Hudson commenting: “Both William and Kate are on par with each other for my vote!”

Username suzi23 said: “I like lots of them but my standout has to be Catherine. She is genuine, and honest and supports her hubby as he sits next in line to the throne. She, I think is the perfect Princess.”

And username petitprintemps said: “My favourites have always been Prince William and Catherine.”

Meanwhile, many other readers shared their admiration for other working royals, with username bren123456 writing: “Choosing is so unfair…I voted Charles because I respect him this man has taken on a role from our beloved Queen I can’t believe he has had time to grieve.”

Another, username Halpilk said: “There are many decent hardworking royals though, so to vote for one is difficult William, Catherine, Anne, Sophie & Edward are all doing their jobs without fanfare.”

While username johnbull1 said: “Princess Anne is the hardest working of all Royals and in my view should be in a category all her own.”

And username Radiotimes said: “Toss up between Anne, Sophie and Edward. All good hard-working and loyal members of the family.”
