Wildfire breaks out at Country Park as UK heads for hottest day on record

A huge fire has broken out in a country park near Birmingham as temperatures across England soar.

Firefighters are currently trying to bring the grassland blaze at Lickey Hills Country Park in Rednal, under control.

Around 4,305 sq ft of land near the golf course is understood to be alight.

Video of the fire shared on social media shows thick plumes of smoke rising into the air above the tree line.

Crews from Hereford and Worcester have joined forces with firefighters from Kings Norton, Woodgate Valley and Northfield to fight the fire.

The cause of the fire, which was reported at 1.15pm, has not been confirmed.

While the fire is ongoing people have been asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

Herefordshire and Worcester Fire Control have said: ‘HWFRS and West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service crews are currently fighting a fire in the open in the area of Rose Hill in Rednal in the Lickey Hills.

‘People are asked to stay away from the area – residents are asked to keep their doors and windows closed.’
