Will this AI-powered dating app put an end to ghosting?

If you’ve ever used a dating app, you probably know the frustration of spending two weeks half-heartedly messaging a potential beau, only for them to eventually disappear without a word.

Or perhaps you’re the one disappearing.

Either way, a new dating app promises to make ghosting a thing of the past – by using artificial intelligence to offer a ‘trial run’ conversation with potential matches.

Teaser AI, set to be launched this month by the team behind photo-sharing app Dispo, boasts the tagline ‘less talk, more action’.

Writing on the App Store, the team says: ‘Dating apps today have endless small talk. We don’t want a penpal. We want to meet up and go on dates.

‘We decided to use the world’s most advanced AI technology to cut through the noise and get you straight to the part that matters: “Wanna get a drink? What’s your number?”.’

Getting to the crux of the matter may be ideal for many, but those with concerns over AI knowing too much about them may want to give it a miss.

‘When you start Teaser AI, our AI starts learning about you – through your profile and chats, it gets smarter every time,’ the team says.

‘Prospective matches can chat with your AI, and you can chat with theirs. This gives you a feel for who they are, though of course it’s not perfect.

‘When a match occurs, we show that AI conversation in the chat, and you both take over from there. It’s often pretty funny, but it always is an icebreaker. Use it to quickly cut through the small talk, and decide whether you want to meet up.’

Of course, with an entire planet full of dating horror stories, this could be just what many want to help them glide through the dating pool – rather than drowning in a sea of unsuitable matches. But if the app does take off, the team could find themselves rather busy fulfilling one particular promise.

‘We also verify every profile, to ward off catfishing and creeps.’

However, the apps’ privacy policy does not define the methods of verification.

And a warning for those who like to linger over their responses.

‘If you don’t say something within 24 hours of a match, consider it expired – so get going.

‘Our goal is to use AI to stop ghosting and get you to the part that matters: meeting up in person and seeing whether that spark is for real.’

Ironic, given it could be ignited by a bot.
