William and Kate’s major diary clash with Harry as Invictus Games set to start

The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to travel to France this weekend for the Rugby World Cup, the same time that Prince Harry will be in Germany for the 2023 Invictus Games.

On the same day that Princess Kate is set to attend the England versus Argentina rugby game, Harry will take to the stage to begin this year’s Invictus Games.

It has been reported that Prince Wiliam will be cheering on Wales at their game against Fiji on Sunday.

Harry will be travelling into Germany from the UK after making an appearance at the WellChild Awards on September 7.

The Duke of Sussex will later be joined by Meghan Markle, who is set to join her husband in Germany on September 11.

Despite the announcement of their trip to France, Kensington Palace have confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales will not be making any other appearances during their visit.

The couple’s trip to France comes after they received backlash for not attending the Lionesses World Cup Final in Australia last month, reports The Telegraph.

Pauline Cope, who is a former England goalkeeper, said that it was a “shame” that William decided to watch from the UK instead of attending in person.

She said: “I will not have any bad words against the Royal Family. However, this should have been pencilled in his diary from day dot, after we won the Euros and qualified for the World Cup.”

Adding to the backlash, broadcaster Jon Sopel said that it was “inconceivable” that both William and Rishi Sunak would not have visited Australia if the men’s team was taking part.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Happy to accept might be impossible for the PM, given other commitments. But Prince William? Why?”

FA chief Mark Bullingham said: “We’ve always known he wouldn’t be able to attend, sadly, due to his diary. He has been a brilliant supporter of the team throughout. He came to see the team before we left and he’s been sending messages of support throughout.”

William did, however, send an apology to the Lionesses for his no-show, adding that he was “proud” of them.

Although they did not win the final, William sent out a tweet, congratulating the team and thanking them for creating “footballing memories”.

Although arriving in Germany at different times, Harry and Meghan will both be in Germany until the end of the Invictus Games on September 16.
