Prince William and Kate Middleton arrive at Royal Ascot
Prince William once confided in the late Queen Elizabeth and then-Prince Charles over his doubts in his relationship with Kate Middleton, according to a royal author.
The pair began dating as students while at St Andrews University, and briefly split some years later in 2007 before reuniting and getting married in 2011.
Before then, in 2006, William reportedly felt the pressure to propose and sat down with his father and grandmother over Christmas to share his concerns about it.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl explained: “William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”
Although Her Majesty was said to be disappointed by the split, Kate wasted no time getting back out on the town and signed up to an all-female dragon boat race across the English Channel.

Royal historian Robert Lacey noted that William “got the message quicker than he or anyone else expected” and soon won Kate back.
After news of their engagement was announced in 2010, the couple gave an interview in which they addressed their break-up and how their reunion came about.
Kate admitted: “At the time, I wasn’t very happy about it, but it made me a stronger person. You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised.

“I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger. I really valued that time for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time.”
William said: “We were both very young… we were both finding ourselves and being different characters. It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up, so it was just a bit of space and it worked out for the better.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales have now been happily married for over 12 years and share three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.
This week Kate and William congratulated the Lionesses after their staggering win against Nigeria saw them advance to the quarter finals of the World Cup.
Kensington Palace shared the England Women’s victory post and wrote: “Well done @lionesses. It was hard-fought but now we’re on to the quarter-finals. Good luck.”
William is President of the Football Association (FA) and has show great support for the team, visiting the Lioness training ground before they travelled to Australia for the competition.
