The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 39, dazzled tonight as they attended the Royal Variety Performance. The couple arrived at London’s Royal Albert Hall for their fourth appearance at the annual fundraising event. Kate recycled a sparkling green Jenny Packham gown for the occasion, which she is first thought to have worn for the couple’s visit to Pakistan two years ago.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge donned a velvet blue tuxedo with a white shirt and a black bow tie.

The evening is being hosted by comedian Alan Carr and features performances from Ed Sheeran and Sir Rod Stewart, among others.

Funds from the show, which will be broadcast by ITV next month, go to the Royal Variety Charity.

The charity’s patron is Queen Elizabeth II, who took over the patronage from her father, King George V.

This year marks 100 years since the country’s previous reigning Sovereign became the charity’s first patron in 1921.

William and Kate attended the evening in 2019, 2017 and 2014, which was their first appearance.

While tonight’s show may pass off without incident for the Cambridges, it was a different story in 2014.

During that edition, host Jack Whitehall made an “inappropriate” comment about Kate, earning him a “sharp look” from William, according to an unearthed report by the Mirror last year.

During his routine, the comic explained how he and the Duchess of Cambridge had both attended Marlborough College.

Kate was several years above the funnyman at the private boarding school.

Beginning his set, Jack said: “I’m very excited to be here. I’m especially excited to be here performing in front of the Duchess of Cambridge.

“This is genuinely true, this is so exciting.

“We were actually at school together. This is true. We were at the same school.

“I was a bit younger than you, but this is the first time I’ve seen you since school, so hello.”

Kate could be seen chuckling and waving to the star, who is known for his stand-up, as well as for shows such as ‘Fresh Meat’ and ‘Bad Education’.

However, the comedian was thrown a serious glance from William as he went on to embarrass Kate.

He said: “I don’t know whether it’s appropriate given the circumstances, but you were probably my first ever crush.

“Okay, definitely inappropriate. Your Highness is giving me a very sharp look.”

Jack later claimed that William had not taken kindly to his remarks about his wife.

Speaking on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, he said he had “flirted a little” because Kate was one of his “first crushes”.

Jack explained that William had come over to him after the show and was “very funny”.

However, he also said: “He was very nice, but very passive-aggressive, ‘Oh so you were flirting with my missus? Oh no, no, that was very, very funny’.”
