Zara Tindall latest: What has Zara said about Prince Harry exit? ‘Overwhelmingly sad’

Zara Tindall, the Queen’s granddaughter, was expected to have been a source of support for her cousin, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, in their decision to leave their royal duties. Zara, 38, is an example of a family member with autonomy – she is close with the Queen and the royals, but is free to earn her own income as she has no title and isn’t a working royal.

But while Harry may have looked to his cousin for guidance, it seems things haven’t turned out the way Zara would have hoped.

A source close to Zara told the Daily Telegraph: “The overwhelming feeling is just one of sadness.

“She is incredibly fond of Harry and just feels so sad about what has happened.

“That’s how they all feel.”

Zara hasn’t spoken about the move publicly herself, however, and isn’t likely to.

Her husband, Mike Tindall, was recently asked about the situation and called it a “no-go area”.

Former rugby star Mike was asked about Harry and Meghan’s shock decision in a January episode of Joe’s House of Rugby podcast while in Australia.

Host Alex Payne joked it wasn’t a bad time to be away from the UK since there was a “lot going on in The Firm”, to which Mike responded: “Let’s not talk about that.”

Alex then asked whether he and fellow host James Haskell, a good friend of Prince Harry’s, had heard from the Duke before his departure.

James replied “Yes, I have,” while Mike said that the topic was a “no-go area” since he “doesn’t know anything about it”.

James then added: “I don’t know anything about it either, I don’t know anymore than you know…

“I think it must be very traumatic and difficult, I have sent my regards. That’s the extent of it.”

Amid all the drama with Meghan and Harry, the Queen is said to be enjoying the easy company of Mike and Zara.

Speaking to Fabulous Digital, Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, said: “[The Tindalls] are certainly light relief.

“She can be herself around them.”

The Queen allegedly enjoys the company of the Tindalls because they are more “normal” and free of the “royal dramas”.

Ms Seward added: “The Queen has always adored Zara and is so proud of her riding success.

“They have a lot in common as they talk horses and the Queen has invested in several horses for her.”

She added: “I think the Queen is closest to Zara and [Zara’s brother] Peter as they were her first grandchildren and have always been the favourites.

“She’s at her most relaxed around them; as a child she used to give Zara a smack around the legs when she was naughty, which was frequently!”
