China records 3,278 COVID-related deaths between Jan 27 and Feb 2

SHANGHAI (Reuters) – China’s COVID-related deaths between Jan. 27 and Feb. 2 this year in hospitals totaled 3,278, the country’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement on Saturday.

Among them, 131 died of respiratory failure caused by the new coronavirus infection, and 3,147 died of other diseases combined with the infection, the CDC said.

Four injured in multi-vehicle crash Aurora Police Department said

A multi-vehicle crash in Aurora on Saturday morning injured four people, two are in critical condition, police said.

The crash happened in the intersection of East Hampden Avenue and South Uravan Street, the Aurora Police Department said in a 5:06 a.m. tweet. The four injured were taken to hospitals. One person had serious injures and the other minor injuries. The intersection was temporarily shut down by the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

 

Colorado Springs Fire Department: Worker seriously injured in fall

A construction worker was seriously injured Saturday by a fall into a deep trench.

The worker fell about 15 feet into the trench in the area of Black Forest Road and Research Parkway, the Colorado Springs Fire Department said in 11:55 a.m. tweet.

The injured worker was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, CSFD said. The Black Forest Fire Department assisted in the emergency response. Roads in the area were temporarily shut down by the incident.

Denver weather: Snow possible Monday

Denver residents could see some snow showers to start the work week after a warm and sunny Sunday.

The city will see sunshine and temperatures as warm as 59 degrees Sunday, according to the National Weather Service at Boulder. But the spring-like weather will be followed by a colder Monday, with highs topping out at about 44 degrees.

The city might see a few snow showers Monday, according to the weather service. There’s a 20% chance of snowfall after 11 a.m.

Tuesday’s temperatures will creep back up into the high 40s with some sunshine, until rain and snow move back in later in the week.

James Jarvis dies in Jefferson County jail, sheriff’s office says

A 62-year-old man died in the Jefferson County Detention Center late Saturday, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

James Jarvis was “found unresponsive” in his cell at 10:48 p.m., according to a news release. The man’s cellmate alerted deputies to his condition. Deputies started “lifesaving measures” and called for additional medical aid, but Jarvis did not survive.

Jarvis had been jailed since Dec. 8 on charges of failure to appear, DUI and a probation weapons violation, the sheriff’s office said.

Daiso Recalls Certain Prepackaged Snacks

Daiso California LLC is recalling certain prepackaged snacks citing undeclared allergen ingredients, the U.S. Food Drug Administration said.

The recall involves products containing undeclared milk allergen, such as MEITO Powdered Apple Tea 4packs with SKU 4902757413606; Potato crackers with small sardines 46g with SKU 4901053077376; and ITOSEIKA Chocolate chip cookies 10pieces with SKU 4901050137172.

Further, Soybeans allergen was not declared with Katoseika Chocolat Orange Candy 60g with SKU 4901580002315 and KANRO Pure gummy Petit trigonal pyramid grape 17g 3 pieces with SKU 4901351055489.

These prepackaged snacks were sold in Daiso stores in California, Washington, Nevada, Texas, New York, and New Jersey.

The La Mirada, California-based company initiated the recall after it was discovered that packaging did not adequately disclose the presence of all allergens.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soybeans and milk may get serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

However, there have been no reported cases of allergic reaction to these products to date.

Sale of these products have been suspended, and Daiso has pulled the products from store shelves.

Consumers who have purchased the affected snacks may return them to any Daiso store for a full refund.

Aurubis Q1 Profit Drops; But Sees FY Operating EBT At Upper End Of Forecast Range

German copper producer Aurubis AG (AIAGY.PK,AIAGF.PK) reported that its first quarter net income dropped 81% to 57 million euros or 1.31 euros per share from 301 million euros or 6.89 euros per share in the same quarter last year.

On an operating basis, quarterly net income declined 22% to 99 million euros or 2.26 euros per share from 127 mil-lion euros or 2.91 euros per share in the prior year.

Quarterly operating earnings before taxes (operating EBT) was 125 million euros, down from last year’s164 million euros, due to the impact of inflation and increased energy prices.

Revenues for the first quarter declined 7% to 4.10 billion euros from 4.41 billion euros in the prior year.

The company now expects operating EBT for the fiscal year 2022/23 at the upper end of the forecast range of 400 million euros – 500 million euros.
