The Best Statistic About Your State
Each of the 50 states is a product of its own unique history, laws, culture, and geography. Indeed, no two states are exactly alike, and many of the attributes that make each state unique are a point of pride.
Across hundreds of measures related to governance, safety, personal finance, state finance, industrial output, environmental sustainability, climate, and more — every state has at least one area in which it performs worse than most states. At the same time, every state also has at least one area in which it excels.
24/7 Wall St. reviewed a range of data sets and state facts to identify the best statistics about every state. In compiling this list, we prioritized a diversity of measures. Data came from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the FBI.
In many cases, a state’s best statistic is largely a product of governmental priorities. These statistics include measures like a well-funded public pension system and substantial investment in education. While not necessarily praise of current state government leadership, measures such as these can be indicative of good state management — past or present. Here is a look at the best- and worst-run states.

The 30 Most Popular Small Dog Breeds in America
The dog is clearly man’s best friend, at least according to 85 million American families who have a furry, four-legged friend. It’s by far the most popular kind of pet in America.
There are many different breeds to choose from — dogs of different shapes and sizes, skills and attitudes. Small dogs — those that grow to be about a foot tall — are particularly popular companions. They are easy to manage as they don’t require much living or play space and easily adapt to different environments.
To identify the most popular small dogs in the United States, 24/7 Tempo used the 2018 ranking of the most popular breeds in the country, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), which currently registers 195 breeds. We took the 30 most popular small breeds from that list. Breeds that were considered for the small category are not taller than 15 inches at the shoulder, according to AKC.
Dogs are the most adoring pets for many, and puppies are the most adoring and adorable dogs. Small dogs, especially the toy breeds, are more like puppies even when full grown, while breeds with a strong prey drive or a reputation for fierceness may not seem puppy-like even when young — these are 20 dogs that stay puppies the longest.

California man pleads guilty in $150 million digital currency scam
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California man charged with bilking nearly $150 million out of 70,000 investors worldwide through a phony digital currency scheme has agreed to enter a guilty plea to federal charges, it was announced Wednesday.
Steven Chen, 62, of Bradbury agreed Tuesday to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of tax evasion, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced. He has a court appearance scheduled for next month and could face up to 10 years in federal prison.
According to his plea agreement, Chen owned U.S. Fine Investment Arts Inc. and six other companies, all based in Arcadia, California. The companies issued a sham digital currency called “Gem Coins” that supposedly was backed by amber and precious gems from mines that Fine Investment Arts owned in several countries.
“Mr. Chen’s promises to investors were as worthless as his non-existent mines and phony digital currency,” U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna said in a statement. “This case should remind all investors that trappings of success may convey legitimacy, but everyone should exercise extreme care when considering giving hard-earned money to any outfit promoting trendy products and extravagant profits.”
Chen used millions of dollars in proceeds to buy homes and pay for a gambling habit, authorities said.
Another company executive, Leonard Stacy Johnson, 53, of Huntington Beach, pleaded guilty last year to tax evasion and making a false statement on an immigration document. He is scheduled to be sentenced in June.
