Starting the season in the big leagues was not Tim Tebow’s calling.
The Mets reassigned the outfielder to minor league camp Tuesday, ending the chance that his miracle rise from football to the major leagues will culminate soon.
Instead, Tebow figures to begin the season at Triple-A Syracuse, serving as minor league depth in case the Mets incur several injuries.
Tebow’s spring camp went relatively well, the lefty finishing 4-of-15 (.267) with an RBI, a season after a broken hamate bone in his right hand prematurely ended his run.
Paul Sewald and Jacob Rhame were optioned to minor league camp, while Arquimedes Caminero, Andres Gimenez, Dilson Herrera, Rymer Liriano and Ali Sánchez were reassigned, too.
