Authorities looking for a missing Michigan mother say they discovered her newborn daughter dead in a vehicle.
The 6-day-old infant’s body was found inside Ashley Shade’s Toyota Camry, which was parked Tuesday near the Grand River in Lansing, according to Lansing State Journal.
Shade, 35, and the newborn were reported missing the night before the infant’s body was discovered.
No information has been released about how the baby died, but an autopsy will be conducted, according to officials.
“It’s too early to say how she died,” Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt told the newspaper. “Our focus right now is finding Ashley. But it’s a tragic situation.”
Anyone with information about Shade’s whereabouts is urged to contact police.
