ACC to allow athletes to transfer within conference without having to sit out a year
Another domino in the fight for student empowerment in college athletics fell Monday when the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced the elimination of the league's intraconference transfer rule, meaning players can transfer from one ACC school to another without having to sit out from competition for a full season.
The league's Board of Directors arrived at the decision unanimously, per the conference.
“The time has come for all student-athletes to have the opportunity to transfer and be permitted to compete immediately,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. “This decision is in the best interest of our student-athletes as it allows greater flexibility during their collegiate career.”

₹2,000 notes not printed since 2019, government tells Lok Sabha
Fall in quantum of notes in circulation
The government on Monday informed the Lok Sabha that ₹2,000 currency notes have not been printed in the past two years even as the quantum of the highest denomination currency note has come down.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur said 3,362 million currency notes of ₹2,000 denomination were in circulation on March 30, 2018, constituting 3.27% and 37.26% of the currency in terms of volume and trade respectively.
As of February 26, 2021, 2,499 million pieces of ₹2,000 notes were in circulation, constituting 2.01% and 17.78% of banknotes in terms of volume and value, respectively.
Printing of banknotes of a particular denomination is decided by the government in consultation with the RBI to maintain desired denomination mix for facilitating transactional demand of the public. “During the years 2019-20 and 2020-21, no indent has been placed with the presses for printing of ₹2,000 denomination banknotes,” he said.

Portugal and Mauritius removed from England’s ‘travel ban’ red list
Portugal, including Madeira and the Azores, is being removed from England’s COVID travel red list – meaning returning Britons no longer have to quarantine when they come home.
Mauritius is also being taken off the list, in a move that could open the way for tourists to go to those two countries after the government allows international travel again.
After Friday, anyone coming from those two countries will be required to self-isolate for ten days on arrival to the UK at home and take COVID-19 tests at home.
Minnesota lets go of Richard Pitino as men’s basketball coach, per report
A second Big Ten men's basketball coach lost his job Monday, this one with a notable surname: Pitino.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have dismissed Richard Pitino, the son of longtime college basketball coach Rick, according to a report from Stadium. He may not be out of work for long, as he and former Nebraska coach Tim Miles are finalists for the New Mexico job, according to the same report.
Minnesota made the NCAA Tournament twice during Pitino's tenure (2017, 2019); his teams were 141-123, but finished below .500 in back-to-back seasons. The 42-year-old was hired by the Gophers in 2013 after his first season as a head coach at Florida International. He had been the associate head coach under his father, who has his Iona Gaels in this year's tournament, at Louisville before that.
