The City of London is faring better than many predicted post-Brexit and relative to gross domestic product, EU financial markets were just half the size of the UK’s in April 2021, according to think-tank New Financial. Alasdair Haynes, chief executive of Aquis Exchange, a UK share-trading venue, said that in Europe “different centres are all fighting each other . . . to get business back at any cost”. Mr Haynes added that the UK fared better than expected in 2021, however, the EU’s plans “have not been very impressive.”
