Boris Johnson is drawing up plans to scrap up to 1,500 EU laws within the next five years by introducing “sunset clauses” that will force ministers to keep them, change them or scrap them. A source told the Telegraph: “The point is to force radical thinking. If the laws are going to expire we can really think about what is actually necessary and have the chance to move away from the EU’s one-size-fits-all approach to regulation.” Rules likely to be affected include restrictions on wine labelling, packaging and bottle sizes, including minimum alcohol requirements; regulations governing high-powered vacuum cleaners and some planning regulations.
