Liz Truss is “not under a desk” hiding from MPs, Penny Mordaunt told Parliament this afternoon.
The Prime Minister was jeered by Labour MPs as the Commons Leader defended her boss in the Chamber.
Sir Keir Starmer had tabled an urgent question demanding a statement from Ms Truss to explain why she had sacked Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng last Friday.
Ms Mordaunt gave a statement on the Prime minister’s behalf, warning he boss had been “detained on urgent business”.
Responding to a question from Labour’s Stella Creasy, Ms mordant said: “Well, the Prime Minister is not under a desk.”
The Walthamstow MP had asked: “All we know right now is, unless she tells us otherwise, the Prime Minister is cowering under her desk and asking for it all to go away.
“Isn’t it about time she did and let somebody else who can make decisions in the British national interest get in charge instead?”
