Amateur climber died from ‘massive crush injuries’ after 600ft Snowdonia fall

A Brit amateur climber who fell 600ft down a mountain died due to “massive crush injuries,” an inquest has heard.

Jack Carne, 23, was climbing in Snowdonia, Wales with two mates on February 4.

He had reached a point where he thought the rock he was about to grab on was safe – but it was not.

The rock gave way, and he fell a whopping 600ft to his death.

His friends tried to find him, having seen his bag was 160ft below them – but a search performed by rescuers from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue made the sobering discovery of Jack's body a further 33ft below that on mountain Glyder Gawr.

Coroner John Gittins said: “He reached for a rock that he thought was solid. Unfortunately, it wasn’t and it gave way, causing him to fall.”

The official cause of death given by Pathologist Dr Mohammed Aslan was death by “multiple crush injuries,” and a full inquest will will take place later this year.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to cover the costs of his funeral.

So far, £11,595 has been raised of the £15k total.
