Carol Kirkwood forecast scattered showers across Scotland and some parts of England. The BBC meteorologist added that temperatures across the UK range from 8-12 degrees which is a noticeable drop from the 18 degrees experienced in some parts of Britain on Wednesday.

Ms Kirkwood said: “We have got some showers this morning, there are a plethora of showers coming in across western Scotland on a brisk wind.

“There are some showers across Northern Ireland, we will see some showers in other western areas.”

The BBC meteorologist continued: “There is a lot of dry weather and a lot of sunshine and just a few showers across parts of central Scotland.

“Throughout the day we will continue with those showers on and off, a lot of dry weather and a lot of sunshine.

“Temperatures are between 8 and 12 degrees so a drop from the 18 degrees some of us had yesterday.

“Through this evening and overnight that cloud will move away and there will be some clear skies.

“There is some cloud coming in across western Scotland which will bring some showers here.

“As we push across the rest of the UK, it is going to be a cold night.”

The BBC has also issued a long-range forecast for March.

“Temperature will fall to near normal or slightly below by the end of the week.

“Nights will become chilly and potentially foggy with crisp but fine, largely sunny days.”

The BBC said regarding the weather in the middle of the month: “Heading through mid-March and beyond, high pressure is expected to recede farther into the Atlantic.

“This would allow a trough of low pressure to develop over western and north-western Europe, leading to more unsettled and changeable conditions.

“Similarly, temperatures will likely be quite variable as well, but there will be plenty of mild spells as fronts arrive followed by colder snaps between fronts.

“This means we should have a gradual increase in unsettled weather and day-to-day variability in precipitation and temperatures.”
