Boozing Brit dad and son arrested by gun cops after chasing moving easyJet plane down the RUNWAY when they missed 'last call' in airport bar

A BRIT holidaymaker and his dad have been fined nearly £2,000 each after they broke open an airport door to chase their plane as it headed towards the RUNWAY.

DJ Tony Loi, 40, and Antonino Loi, 65, were held by stunned gun-toting cops as they ran along the tarmac at Cagliari airport.

Both men are said to have been drinking in a bar and were due to catch an easyJet flight back to London Stansted when they suddenly realised it was “last call”.

They raced to the gate on the Italian island of Sardinia but when they were told it was too late forced open a emergency door and started running after the departing jet.

Tony Loi has now described the situation as "ridiculous and stupid” while revealing he is planning to challenge his fine.

Speaking to The Sun he said: "We usually board at a gate on the first floor so that’s where we were sitting but they boarded from below.

“They said they called us but neither of us heard anything on the tannoy – I had earphones in but I didn’t hear anything over the tannoy.

“My dad saw an easyJet plane outside and then saw that boarding was shut.

“I ran downstairs towards the plane, I thought the stairs to the plane were still there, so I basically exited a door that put an alarm off."

Mr Loi said all he wanted to go was get his flight home on Tuesday.

“I got outside and ran to the plane – I could see it was still there,” he said. “I just wanted to catch the plane. I’m not a criminal and we weren’t drunk.”

“As I was running a copper with a gun chased me. My dad got a bit cross at him because he was flustered and stressed out – natural behaviour.

“He was like 'what are you doing I want to catch this plane’.

“To be honest, I actually thought the police officer was going to radio the plane and tell them to make an exception and let us off but, it was the opposite, a different case altogether."

After being collared by the cops, the pair were taken into a small room for more than an hour and then told they were going to be fined.

“The whole thing is laughable," said Tony.

“I opened the wrong door, OK, but I’m not a criminal. I wanted to get on my plane."

Airport police officer Mimmo Bari said: "If it wasn’t so stupid it would be funny – although we did all have a laugh at these two idiots.

“They had been drinking in a bar at the airport and missed the boarding announcements, by the time they realised what was happening the gate had closed.

“The boarding staff wouldn’t let them through so they just forced open an emergency door and ran after the plane.

“It was a bit like a comedy scene as they had their wheelie suitcases with them but if it had been somewhere else they ran the risk of being shot.”

The men who both live in London, were fined 2,000 euros (£1,770) each and are now back home after the bizarre incident.

In a statement easyJet said: "We can confirm that two passengers were not allowed to travel on flight EZY3204 from Cagliari to London Stansted having arrived late to the gate.

"They were subsequently arrested by the police as a result of behaving disruptively. The safety and wellbeing of passengers, crew and ground staff is always our priority.

“Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour.”
