A driver desperately chased his runaway Jeep down a street in the Netherlands before falling over and watching it crash into a parked car in astonishing footage.

The CCTV clip, filmed in Diemen last Wednesday, captures the motorist as he runs beside his Jeep when it begins to roll backwards down a residential road.

The man, who appears to have left his handbrake off, clings to the side of the vehicle as he attempts to fling open the driver’s side door and halt its movement.

But moments later, he stumbles on the tarmac and crashes to the ground beside a parked white van.

He attempts to catch up with the Jeep for a second after rushing to his feet, but soon realises he is too far behind the vehicle as it rolls through a junction and crashes into a car.

Danny Klompen, who captured the clip, said he ‘couldn’t help but laugh’ when he checked his CCTV after hearing a sound outside his home.

‘I heard a sound outside but had no idea what had happened,’ he said.

‘When I checked my CCTV, I couldn’t help but laugh. I don’t know the man but it doesn’t look like anybody was hurt.’

He added that the motorist was ‘really lucky’ the car his Jeep crashed into only had ‘some side damage’.

‘He was really lucky that the white car at the end only had some side damage as there were a lot of vehicles lining the road,’ Mr Klompen said.

‘The Jeep would have rolled about 100 metres down the street so would have picked up some speed.’
