Fears families ‘trapped under rubble’ after huge 60-flat complex collapses

A huge building that reportedly housed more than 60 flats has collapsed in Mahad, India.

Shocking images from the scene show a completely destroyed pile of rubble with shocked witnesses standing around it.

There are fears that people may be trapped in the debris.

The apartment complex was five storeys tall.

Three teams from India's National Disaster Response Force are responding to the catastrophe.

At this point there is no information on how the building collapsed or how many people were inside at the time.

Footage of the scene posted to Twitter shows a huge crowd of panicked observers at the scene. Several people can be seen standing on top of the rubble.
