Female prison officer had ‘inappropriate relationships’ with locked up brothers

A disgraced female prison officer had "inappropriate relationships” with two locked-up brothers at the same time.

Lucy Thornton, 28, got to know inmates Aaron, 31, and Haden Whittaker, 28, at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool.

She admitted she that she "wilfully misconducted herself” with the pair, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Thornton was arrested after a “counter corruption’ probe into her behaviour with them at the Category B men's prison.

The brothers are understood to have not been charged with any offence because there was deemed to be insufficient evidence against them.

But they are both said to have been moved to different jails in the wake of the investigation.

At Liverpool Crown Court Thornton pleaded guilty to two counts of misconduct in a public office.

She admitted that between November 2018 and August 2019 she "wilfully misconducted herself” in her duty by "forming an inappropriate relationship" with Aaron.

According to the charge, she had also been "encouraging his use of a mobile phone in prison”.

The prison officer admitted doing the same with his brother between November 2018 and June 2019.

The brothers, of Macclesfield, Cheshire, have been in and out of jail since they were teenagers.

Their criminal records include a conviction for GBH for Aaron and a 10-year sentence for wounding for Haden after a vicious stabbing.

In 2010 Aaron escaped from Thorn Cross young offenders institution, in Warrington, where he was serving a sentence for GBH.

He jumped out of a window, but was caught trying to hitchhike and was later handed another two months.

His jailbreak was said to have been motivated by him trying to get away because he couldn't afford to pay gambling debts run-up since starting his sentence.

In November 2020 he was jailed for eight months for dangerous driving, drink driving and driving without insurance or a licence.

Earlier this month he was sentenced over a "road rage" incident and crashing head on into another car in September 2020.
