Gunman ‘kicked in door’ before firing as child is among six dead in shooting

A woman described a horrifying moment when a gunman reportedly 'kicked in' the front door of a house before shooting.

Six people have died, including a child under the age of 10 according to an MP, as police try to piece together the tragic events that unfolded in Keyham, Plymouth.

The gunman was also killed in the "serious and tragic" incident, with police confirming he died from gunshot wounds.

Witnesses have described seeing the man fire a gun towards a young mum and her daughter, who has been said could be as young as five years old.

Local MP Luke Pollard tweeted in the early hours of the morning he was "utterly devastated" by the news a child had been killed.

Sharron Turner, 57, who lives behind where the shooting took place says the gunman was dressed in black and grey, and carrying a semi-automatic weapon, reports The Times.

While forensic officers continue to comb the area Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed just after midnight that six people had died on Thursday evening.

While one of the deceased was identified as the gunman, local MP Luke Pollard Tweeted in the early hours of this morning that one of the victims was a child under 10 years old.

He wrote: "I’m utterly devastated that one of the people killed in the #keyham shooting was a child under ten years old."

While police are yet to confirm the ages of the victims, witness Sharron Turner says the gunman fled through a park close to the house where he turned the gun on other people.

“We heard a number of loud bangs which I said sounded like gunshots. Then he ran into the park and there were further shots. I heard someone say he had shot his brother,” she said.

Turner said there were rumours a second shooter was involved and had run towards a Lidl supermarket where more shots were heard, but police say they are not looking for anyone. else in connection to the shooting.

In a police statement, a spokesperson said: "Police were called to a serious firearms incident in Biddick Drive, in the Keyham area of Plymouth at around 6.10pm on Thursday

"Following attendance at the scene, two females and two males were deceased at the scene. A further male, believed to be the offender, was also deceased at the scene. All are believed to have died from gunshot wounds.

"Another female treated at the scene for gunshot wounds, died a short time later in hospital.

"All of the next of kin of the deceased have been located and informed by officers.

"Devon & Cornwall Police would stress this is not a terrorism-related incident.

"The area has been cordoned off and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."

Police continue to ask any members of the public with mobile phone footage of the immediate aftermath of the incident not to post this on social media platforms and to respect those families who have lost loved ones this evening.
