Gunman ‘shot dead estranged wife in front of son, 8’ in department store

A suspected gunman is accused of murdering his estranged wife in front of their son at a department store.

Enrique Acosta, 41, is said to have gunned down mum-of-two Yvonne Rodriguez in front of horrified shoppers in a busy Kohl shop in California.

He fled the scene after the shooting on Tuesday but was caught the next day in the city of Barstow, according to reports.

Paramedics pronounced the mum dead at the scene.

Police booked him on suspicion of murder after the killing in the city of Whittier.

Witnesses claimed she was near a till when she got into a heated row with a man.

Police said the man pulled out a gun, shot the woman and ran out of the shop, the Whittier Daily News reports.

According to ABC7, the gunman told the young boy: "I just shot your mom and now I'm leaving."

Authorities described the killing as the possible result of a domestic dispute.

The victim was named on a GoFundMe page as Yvonne Rodriguez.

According to the donation page, the shooting took place in front of the estranged couple’s eight-year-old son.
