Hundreds join frantic search for missing boy, 6, who fell into river while fishing with his dad who dived into try to save him

A PANICKED dad desperately dived into the water in an attempt to rescue his six-year-old son after the boy went missing while the pair fished together, it has been claimed.

Lucas Dobson went missing in the the River Stour near Sandwich, Kent, yesterday afternoon – with emergency services today continuing their search.

Emergency services had been called to reports a boy had fallen into the water about 1.20pm on Saturday.

And Lucas' aunt today told The Mirror Online Lucas' dad had immediately jumped in to save him.

Rescue crews have been pictured searching the banks of the river, with locals also descending on the scene in an attempt to help.

A cop at the scene of the search said: "At the moment we're hoping that he has been able to grab hold of something and pull himself out."

Assistant director for Kent Fire and Rescue (KFRS), Chris Colgan, said: "We're all incredibly grateful to everyone who has given everything today to try and locate this little boy.

"Our thoughts are with him and his family tonight at this very difficult and emotional time."

And while locals have again been seen heading to the river to try to help, authorities have warned them to stay away from the water for their own safety.

Superintendent Amanda Tillotson at Kent Police said: "Whilst we appreciate the support we have received from members of the public who wish to help in the search, we would strongly advise people to stay away from the water.

"This is for their own safety and to ensure those working within the emergency services can focus solely on locating the missing boy."

The search was last night postponed, with authorities resuming the hunt this morning.
