An Iranian couple have been given jail sentences totalling 10 years after posting a video of themselves dancing in the street. They were reportedly convicted for promoting corruption, prostitution and propaganda.

The couple reportedly did not link their dance to ongoing protests in Iran.

Astiazh Haqiqi, 21, and her fiance, Amir Mohammad Ahmadi, 22, have reportedly been convicted of “promoting corruption and prostitution, colluding against national security, and propaganda against the establishment”, according to the BBC.

Ms Haqiqi’s family home was raided before the arrest, the broadcaster reports.

They have each been sentenced to a total of 10 and a half years.

According to reports, Ms Haqiqi and Mr Ahmadi were also banned from using social media for two years and from leaving the country.

Protests have shaken Iran since the death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish-Iranian woman who was detained by the country’s morality police.
