Racing chiefs want Ladies’ Day revellers in Doncaster to out-do Royal Ascot by dressing up like the monarchy.

The South Yorkshire mining town’s course hosts Ladies’ Day at the Cazoo St Leger festival tomorrow.

And track officials are offering a £1,000 cash prize to the most regal-looking race-goer.

A spokesman said: “Look to royal style at the races for inspiration.

“Now is the time to turn up the heat on the fashion stakes.”

They hope to rival Berkshire’s Ascot, where the likes of Made In Chelsea's Georgia Toffolo turn heads in elegant outfits.

The official said the royals were “style icons”. He added: “These glamorous women still influence the fashion choices of Britain and are the perfect reference point for a winning contemporary look.”

Outfits at this year's Royal Ascot impressed as the likes of the Duchess of Cambridge and Helen Skelton wowed – and even broke fashion rules – at the exclusive event.

Holly Willoughby, who stunned at the races, even explained how she had made a basic fashion faux-pas with her hat and caused mayhem during her journey to Ascot.

She said: "I [was on] This Morning today, then I jumped straight in the car to get down here because I didn’t want to miss the first race.

“I put my hat on and got in the car then realised I couldn’t actually fit in the car with my hat, but it’s all pinned in.

"So I was lying with my seat belt on like this [slumped] the whole way here, but it’s fine I think, it just about survived."

Meanwhile Kate Middleton paid a touching tribute to the late Princess Diana in a fetching polka dot dress that almost exactly resembled one that the Princess of Wales had worn back in 1988.

And along with the stunning dress, Kate wore a pair of Princess Diana's diamond and pearl earrings to fit with the outfit, leaving royal families overjoyed.
