Man accepts award for ‘Number 1 buyer of Quavers Crisps’ for second year running

A man has made crisp history after he became the number one buyer of Quavers in his local supermarket for the second year running.

Lee Wakefield, from Dalston, East London, was told via the Sainsbury's app he was the top purchaser of the savoury snack at his local branch in 2022 after nabbing the top spot a year earlier.

Graciously accepting the honour on Twitter, he wrote: "Very proud to defend my title as the #1 buyer of Quavers at the big Sainsbury’s.

"To scoop the award once is an achievement but to do the double is unprecedented."

"It’s another proud day for me and my family."

In a separate tweet, he added: "Talk to me @walkers_crisps. Let me be the face of Quavers."

Fellow crisp fanatics were quick to reply to the tweet with their well-wishes.

One asked: "2 years running?!", to which Lee responded: "Two time champion!"

Another responded: "I understand if you win it three times you get to keep Gary Linekar."

Meanwhile, Walkers themselves, who produce the cheesy crisps, chimed in to take their hats off to Lee.

The snack goliath wrote: "Hard graft pays off, nothing but respect for those numbers."

Others, however, wanted to get into specifics and know exactly how many bags of Quavers earns you the coveted top spot.

"Going to need some stats here. How many bags were purchased? Want to know if you absolutely swept away the competition," a more sceptical follower queried.

Speaking to MyLondon, Lee admitted even he doesn't know how many crisps he'd bought last year – but added this was "probably best".

"It’s a huge honour to scoop the award for a second time, although maybe a wake-up call too," he told the publication.

"I’m not sure about the amount I’ve bought and I think it’s probably best I don’t know to be honest.

"Either way, I’m here if Walkers want to get in touch. Big up the Quavers crew!"

Lee received similarly good news last year from the same East London branch of the supermarket chain.

"I haven’t prepared a speech but overwhelmed to receive this award as the #1 buyer of Quavers at the big Sainsbury’s in Dalston," he wrote last year.

"It’s a real honour. I’m very open to brand deals @walkers_crisps."
