The man accused of murdering nine-year-old schoolgirl Olivia Pratt-Korbel has been pictured as he appeared in court this morning, charged with the youngster's killing.

The nine-year-old was shot dead with a .38 caliber revolver inside her own home in Kingsheath Avenue, Dovecot on August 22, as her mum Cheryl desperately tried to shield her from Joseph Nee, who was trying to force his way into the house.

Shots were fired towards Nee by a gunman, with one bullet hitting Cheryl's wrist, while Olivia was also fatally hit.

A second man, Paul Russell, 40, from Snowberry Road, West Derby, has been charged with assisting an offender.

Both men appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court today (Monday, October 3).

On Thursday, Merseyside Police said that Cashman had been taken in for questioning.

Earlier today, he was sent to the Crown Court and there will be a further hearing at 2pm, where any bail application can be considered.

So far, 11 arrests have been made, and police had offered a reward of £200,000 for information leading to the capture of the murderer.

Paying tribute to her daughter during the funeral last month, Cheryl said: “She had an answer for everything.

“There were many times I was amazed by the answers she would give back. I would have to remind her how old she was.

“Liv was loved and adored by everyone and she will never be forgotten. I will never say goodbye but what I will say is goodnight, I love you, see you in the morning.”

Paul Russell will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on October 31 for a pre-trial hearing relating to a charge of assisting an offender. He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
