Man who killed two at Westminster bar found guilty of first-degree murder

A man who shot and killed two people outside a Westminster bar in March was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder.

The jury returned its verdict against Steven Muniz, 40, after a nine-day trial in Adams County.

The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said that Muniz was at Sportswatch Bar and Grill along Lowell Boulevard in Westminster with some family and friends that night in March, and that Muniz’s group “at some point during the evening” got into a fight with others at the bar. Prosecutors said Muniz punched one person and that the confrontation died down before flaring back up later, with Muniz fatally shooting two: 33-year-old Keith Armes and Jessica Ybarra, 31.

The jury returned guilty verdicts against Muniz on four counts. He is set to be sentenced Jan. 5.

Another man involved in the case, Robert Manzanares, was already tried and convicted for helping Muniz flee the scene by car after the March shooting. He’s serving a three-year prison sentence now.
