Matthew Buchanan, wanted as suspect in his mother’s death in Castle Rock, is arrested in Florida.

A suspect linked to a Castle Rock house fire where his mother died was arrested in Florida.

Matthew Buchanan, 32, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning in Monroe County, Fla., according to the Castle Rock police.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Buchanan for his involvement in the death of his mother, police said.

Elizabeth Bjorlow, 59, of Castle Rock, was identified Wednesday as the person who died at the scene of a fire near Dove Valley Place and Paint Pony Circle. The Douglas County Coroner’s Office identified Bjorlow.

“I’m so proud of our team for their diligent and quick work, and we hope this arrest brings some relief to our community,” Police Chief Jack Cauley said in a news release. “We are grateful to the many agencies who assisted us in locating this wanted person.”

Buchanan is being held in Monroe County awaiting extradition to Colorado. He faces multiple charges including second-degree murder, police said.

Another person at the home was taken to a local hospital with injuries. That person is expected to survive. An investigation is ongoing.
