Police searching for the missing ex-girlfriend of a notorious Brazilian drug lord have made a grisly discovery on a beach near where she lived.
Bianca Lourenco, disappeared from the Kelson favela in the North Zone of the south-eastern Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro .
Her reported disappearance came shortly after she ended her relationship with Dalton Vieira Santana – named in local media reports as a leading drug trafficker in the region.
Bianca was last seen at a barbecue party in the favela on Saturday, January 3. Multiple witnesses saw her leave the party with Santana.
According to friends of the young woman, he had often been violent towards her.
Now the region’s Civil Police have discovered body parts apparently belonging to the 24-year-old on a beach on Ilha do Fundão, a short distance away from the Kelson favela.
Bianca’s distinctive tattoos – on show in a series of bikini photos she uploaded to her Twitter feed shortly before her disappearance – appear to match those identified on the mutilated remains that washed up on the beach overnight.
Her family has blamed Santana for her death. Bianca’s father said that he had been very concerned about her safety since she became involved with Santana and had manage to talk her into breaking off her relationship with him.
But, he told local news site Globo, Santana had refused to accept that it was over between them. Mr Lourenco went to the favela to seek to Santana where, he claims, Santana confessed to the murder.
"To everyone, he said he killed her. He didn't speak to me, but he spoke to others.”
He continued: ”I asked him to help me if he could … If it had happened, if he could have returned my daughter's body, which he could hand over to me any way he could, that he could at least take away my father's pain, at least that I can bury my daughter.”
Bianca’s aunt said she also went to look for her niece and found Santa who allegedly said he had killed her.
But since then, Santana has said that he "didn’t do anything."
At present, according to local police, the case remains open and unsolved.
