Newborn twins drowned in their own blood after 'mom did coke while pregnant'

A pair of newborn twin siblings died drowned in their own blood after their mother allegedly took cocaine and ecstasy while pregnant.

The unnamed youngsters died aged just two days old on Tuesday, after mother Tiffany Marie Roberts, 29, gave birth to them on Saturday.

The sisters cause of death was listed as pulmonary hemorrhage – acute bleeding from the lungs – with the babies testing positive for drugs including cocaine shortly after they were born.

Roberts, of Chattanooga in Tennessee felt short of breath after taking ecstasy on Saturday, it is alleged.

The alleged killer, who was 23 weeks pregnant at the time, went to hospital and told doctors what she had done, it is claimed.

She was then prepped for emergency labor, and gave birth to the infants prematurely, the Times-Press reported.

Roberts shared photos of her new arrivals on her Facebook page on Monday, writing: ‘Bless these beautiful babies girls came early but they gonna be strong.’

But tragically, the twins died on Tuesday aged just two days old.

Roberts shared a Facebook tribute to the babies before being arrested, writing: ‘Rest in heaven my beautiful treasure.’

While born very prematurely, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology says that up to a quarter of babies delivered at 23 weeks can survive, if given intensive treatment.

Roberts tested positive for drugs including cocaine, oxycodone, roxicodone and methamphetamine on three different days throughout her pregnancy, it is claimed.

She is said to have admitted that she ‘has a problem.’

Her alleged drug use saw her charged with first-degree murder of a viable fetus as a victim, as well as aggravated child abuse or neglect.

Roberts is being held in Hamilton County Jail in lieu of $1million bond.

Her Facebook page has been filled with abusive messages since she was charged.

A woman claiming to be Roberts’ sister wrote a defense of her, saying: ‘(You) have no idea what she has been through and i promise its more than u could ever fathom.

‘(Y)es she has a drug problem yes she needs help…

‘God knows her heart and thats all matters she didnt intentionally kill the girls she has had a serious problem since grade school and she has lived in the streets her whole life and even her childhood …

‘its all she knows.’
