PE teacher accused of prom night sex with teen starts new life in Dubai

An ex-PE teacher who was accused of having sex with a pupil has started a new life in Dubai as a yoga instructor.

Melissa Tweedie, who was 22 at the time of the alleged incident, was struck off the teaching register by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) following an investigation into her behaviour.

The now-28-year-old was accused of sleeping with an 18-year-old student after their school leavers night at a Glasgow club in June 2017, and although she strongly denied the allegations, was found to have acted in an inappropriate manner.

The ex-teacher fled to Dubai after the investigation and locked down her social media accounts.

But just months after the scandal she returned to social media, posting meditations and online classes on YouTube after she studied for more than 200 hours to become a qualified yoga instructor.

In one of the videos she says: "If today or yesterday wasn't your day then just think today you have this clean slate up in front of you.

"You choose what colours you sprinkle throughout your day today, you choose what you take from your day today.

"Yesterday is behind you, there is another bright day ahead of you."

Allegations against Tweedie began after she was spotted drinking shots and dancing inappropriately with her students.

At around 1.45am the headteacher of the school where she worked, David Nicholls, was called by an "alarmed" pupil who claimed they had seen her with the alleged victim, known only as Pupil A, at a Premier Inn.

The now-retired headmaster rushed to the Premier Inn but was stopped from going beyond the foyer of the hotel, where he called Tweedie.

She told him that she was at home but later admitted to investigators that she woke up in bed with the pupil.

However, she denied having sex with him and said she had only gone to the hotel because she was concerned pupils were taking drugs there after seeing a bag of cocaine.

She also suggested her drink may have been spiked.

Pupil A claimed that the pair had had sex after he drank wine, gin, shots and beer.

A General Teaching Council of Scotland panel ruled that the pupil’s claim that he had sex with her was not proven by the evidence presented, but the panel did say that she had kissed Pupil A and had been alone on a bed with him.

Police Scotland was alerted to the incident at the time and found that no criminality had taken place.
