Pub landlady who knifed teen she wrongly thought was hubby’s lover found guilty

The pub landlady who stabbed a teenage waitress she wrongly thought was her husband's lover has been found guilty of attempted murder.

Luisa Santos, 47, believed her chef husband Pedro was having an affair with Hannah Pritchett, 18, after she alleged the teenager was "laughing" at her.

She also believed the 18-year-old had ordered the chef to choose between his family or his fling, which was described by prosecutors as a "deluded belief" on Santos' part.

So "deluded" in fact that Santos' attempt to frighten Pritchett ended up in an attempted murder charge after the 47-year-old stabbed the waitress with a fish knife in The Three Horseshoes pub, a court has heard.

Santos, from Princethorpe, Warwickshire, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and was sentenced today to ten years in prison.

Jurors at Warwick Crown Court took five hours and 16 minutes to deliberate over the four-day trial, eventually convicting Santos by an 11-1 majority.

Footage of the attacks show Santos approach Pritchard as she was sat polishing cutlery, with the teenager suffering two stab wounds that were eight centimetres and 17cm deep, spending three days in hospital.

Santos told jurors that she felt "tormented" by Pritchard, who she said was "looking at me in a provocative way, like she knew what she was doing – like she was challenging me."

Investigating officer Detective Constable Gareth Morgan said: "This attack was entirely unprovoked, and the victim was fortunate not to suffer more serious injuries.

"It was witnessed my numerous people in the pub at the time and could have ultimately resulted in the loss of a life.

"Although this was an isolated incident, great teamwork meant we were able to quickly arrest Santos and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the investigation for their dedication and commitment throughout.

"Using a knife is never acceptable and I am glad Santos is now behind bars where I hope she will be able to reflect on her actions."
