A school was placed on lockdown this morning as armed police were scrambled to reports of a gunman in the area.
Children at Wilsthorpe School in Long Eaton, Derbyshire were being kept inside classrooms as gun cops swooped at around 8am.
Dramatic pictures showed a large number of officers in the area as a cordon was erected around the scene.
Derbyshire Police initially confirmed it was dealing with an individual inside a house near the school and had closed surrounding roads.
A spokesman said: "Armed officers are currently at an address on Briar Gate in Long Eaton.

"We are speaking to an occupant at the address and there is currently a cordon in place."
A drone unit was also scrambled to the scene.
The force later confirmed it had been called to reports of a man with a firearm, and that he had been arrested.
It also dismissed reports on social media of shots being fired.
A statement on Twitter read: "Officers were called to a property on #BriarGate in #LongEaton at 7.45am this morning to reports of a man with a firearm.

"Armed officers were deployed to the scene along with negotiators.
"A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and is in police custody.
"There have been rumours in the area that gun shots were fired, we can confirm that no shots were fired by officers or by the man under arrest."
One worried mum said earlier that she saw armed cops training their guns on a car next to the school.
She told Derbyshire Telegraph: “I’ve just seen armed police holding a gun at someone or a car. It scared me and my daughter.

“I’ve asked police if we are safe and they told me as long as we keep away from the cordon.”
Another local resident, who did not want to be named, said the incident "must be serious".
They said: “There’s police everywhere. It must be something serious.”
Wilsthorpe School quickly confirmed teachers were keeping students indoors due to the "ongoing police incident"
A message sent out to parents of children at the school read: “Students will be kept inside the school building behind the secure line until we receive further information.
“Please do not visit the school."
